Unconditional Continuous Variable Dense Coding
We investigate the conditions under which unconditional dense coding can be
achieved using continuous variable entanglement. We consider the effect of
entanglement impurity and detector efficiency and discuss experimental
verification. We conclude that the requirements for a strong demonstration are
not as stringent as previously thought and are within the reach of present
technology
A model for integrating home-work tour scheduling with time-varying network congestion and marginal utility profiles for home and work activities.
The existing literature on activity-based modeling emphasizes that individuals schedule their activities by keeping the whole-day activity pattern in mind. Several attempts have been made to integrate this with network congestion; however, for explicit explanation of travel behavior of individuals, further improvements are required. The proposed model is a combined model that addresses the scheduling of the home-work tour with time-varied network congestion in a fixed-point problem frame-work. Marginal utility profiles that represent individual time-of-day preferences and satiation effect of the activities are incorporated for the measurement of the utility of activity engagement along with the disutility of travel. Consideration of only time-of-day dependent marginal utility profiles of activities in the utility function does not appropriately integrate activities and travel within the tour. The proof is shown analytically and numerically. This finding contradicts earlier research into integration of morning and evening commutes with network congestion. Additionally, the results of two numerical experiments are presented. In the first experiment, an arbitrary dynamic tolling strategy is assumed, and then a detailed analysis is performed to show variation in the balance of trade-offs involved in the process. The second experiment assesses the sensitivity of the combined model through incorporation of different dynamic traffic loading models. Some meaningful observations are drawn from these experiments and are discussed with the identification of avenues for future research
A SUSY SU(5) Grand Unified Model of Tri-Bimaximal Mixing from A4
We discuss a grand unified model based on SUSY SU(5) in extra dimensions and
on the flavour group A4xU(1) which, besides reproducing tri-bimaximal mixing
for neutrinos with the accuracy required by the data, also leads to a natural
description of the observed pattern of quark masses and mixings.Comment: 19 page
3D multi-agent models for protein release from PLGA spherical particles with complex inner morphologies
In order to better understand and predict the release of proteins from bioerodible micro- or nanospheres, it is important to know the influences of different initial factors on the release mechanisms. Often though it is difficult to assess what exactly is at the origin of a certain dissolution profile. We propose here a new class of fine-grained multi-agent models built to incorporate
increasing complexity, permitting the exploration of the role of different parameters, especially that of the internal morphology of the spheres, in the exhibited release profile. This approach, based on Monte-Carlo (MC) and Cellular Automata (CA) techniques, has permitted the testing of various assumptions and hypotheses about several experimental systems of nanospheres encapsulating proteins. Results have confirmed that this modelling approach
has increased the resolution over the complexity involved, opening promising perspectives for future developments, especially complementing in vitro experimentation
Laughlin liquid - Wigner solid transition at high density in wide quantum wells
Assuming that the phase transition between the Wigner solid and the Laughlin
liquid is first-order, we compare ground-state energies to find features of the
phase diagram at fixed . Rather than use the Coulomb interaction, we
calculate the effective interaction in a square quantum well, and fit the
results to a model interaction with length parameter roughly
proportional to the width of the well. We find a transition to the Wigner solid
phase at high density in very wide wells, driven by the softening of the
interaction at short distances, as well as the more well-known transition to
the Wigner solid at low density, driven by Landau-level mixing.Comment: RevTeX 3.0, 3 Postscript figures appended in uuencoded forma
